Description

REV is pleased to offer this extremely clean, low mileage example of a 1988 Jeep Wagoneer Limited. This unique model of the XJ platform was top-of-the-line in 1988 and demanded an original MSRP of $21,926 before options (the equivalent of $47,600 in today's money). It was fully loaded with all available options at the time, including cruise control, power windows, power locks, premium audio, air conditioning, woodgrain trim, special embroidered 8-way adjustable power seats, part time and full time AWD with 2-speed transfer case, and a Dana 44 rear axle. Additional unique features included woodgrain vinyl trim on the exterior, Wagoneer grille with stacked headlamps, and 10-spoke Wagoneer wheels. Of the large number of XJ's produced in 1988, very few of them were Wagoneer Limited models. They are much harder to find today than the Grand Wagoneer, or comparable Laredo Cherokee. This particular example has a documented history of just 2 owners since new. The first owner purchased the car new in Bristol, VA, where they kept the car for 23 years. It was sold to it's 2nd owner (a friend of the original owner) in 2011, who kept the car in Bristol, TN just over the border up until now. Both owners have kept the car out of the elements, it has been stored under a carport for the last 9 years, and in a garage before that. The car will come with maintenance records from both owners, documenting how well the car was maintained. It will also come with the original owners manual, and floor mats which are both in excellent condition. The exterior of the car is in good shape overall. The hood and front fenders have been repainted in the last few years, as they were starting to lose the clear coat and the 2nd owner decided to fix it. The areas where the truck has been repainted look very nice, with minimal-to-no imperfections. There is also a new rear fender flare on the driver's side from where the 2nd owner bumped it when backing up very slowly, which has also been painted to match. The tires are older, and dry-rotted but have good tread left. The wheels have minor corrosion in the form of pitting due to age. The undercarriage is quite clean, but with some areas of surface rust. There is a very small area on the passenger side rocker panel approximately the size of a dime that is bubbling from surface corrosion. There is some signs of aging on the wood vinyl stickers all around, but especially on the rear hatch. The interior is in wonderful shape. The seats all appear as though they were never sat in, with very minimal wear. Additionally the carpets and floor mats show minimal wear. The dash does not show any signs of cracking or warping, and the headliner is not sagging. In the trunk there is hardly any wear, with a very minimal amount of small scratches present in the plastic trim, and metal slats which lay across the storage area. The radio works perfectly, as do 3 of the 4 windows (the passenger side rear window is frozen but it appears to want to move up and down). The power locks work for both front doors, and for the rear tailgate but the two rear passenger doors have to be toggled manually. The power seats appear to be working perfectly. The cruise control is not working. The air conditioning is currently not working either, but we will be putting on a new compressor and evaporator. We also intend to fix the door locks, and windows. Mechanically, the car runs great. The engine is smooth both idling and on the road and the transmission shifts normally, both up and down gears. The transfer case works well, and allows for easily switching between 2wd and 4WD/AWD, as well as low-range. The truck steers and stops in a straight line. The cooling system is functioning perfectly, and keeps the Jeep nice and cool on longer drives with no issues of getting above normal operating temperature. There are a few oil leaks, as expected with a vehicle of this age that is unrestored. The rear main seal, and transmission pan, most notably.
